Danger Close | The Fourth Option Podcast: Ben Owen & Jessica Owen
"You don't have to have shackles and chains to have slaves today. I'm just being real. If you have someone that's addicted to a substance and you control that person's access to said substance, you have a human slave."
Ben, a former addict and resident of Memphis trap houses, described how drug dealers use addiction as a tool of labor trafficking and coercion. He explained that dealers leverage addicts' dependence to force them to hold drugs, sell drugs, and take all legal risks while the dealers avoid arrest. This same mechanism drives sex trafficking, as victims are controlled through their substance dependency rather than physical restraints.
