Michael Button cites researchers’ claims of charcoal, blackened stones and hearth-like structures in southern Australia dated to about 120,000 years ago. He says the dating is not widely accepted and notes the paper argues a cultural (human) origin fits better than natural processes, but lacks artefacts or skeletons.
