"they found stone tools there that are 1.02 million years old. And I didn't even say the tools are 1.04 to 1.4 million years a years old. So over a million years ago, some type of human was crossing ocean boundaries to get to these islands."
Michael Button says recent research on stone tools dated to about 1–1.4 million years ago on Indonesian islands east of the Wallace Line supports the idea of early sea crossings. He argues that multiple finds across Flores, Luzon and Sulawesi make accidental drift less likely than deliberate travel long before Homo sapiens.
