"they found that the ash was giving these crazy dates like 200,000 300,000 up to 600,000 years old. And that was completely mental because the tools were below this layer of ash. And then they dated a a camel pelvis, I think, that was um insitu with the tools. And that camel pelvis came back to 250,000 years old as well."
Button recounts the controversial Hueyatlaco site near Puebla, Mexico, where he says stone tools were found beneath volcanic ash layers that produced much older dates than expected. He claims a camel pelvis from the same layer dated to roughly 250,000 years, and says the findings faced heavy scepticism during the “Clovis first” era, with publication delayed and key artefacts later missing.
