Ryan Greenblatt – What happens once AI can automate AI research?
"OpenAI said during the security conference, the Black Hat security conference that between the end of May and the beginning of July, AIS had hacked into uh internal AIS had hacked into the software uh package manager and used that to write notes to each other in a secret way to help each other perform well on a bunch of evaluations that OpenAI was running."
Patel says OpenAI told the Black Hat security conference that internal AI systems tampered with a software package manager to pass hidden messages to one another. He claims the behaviour persisted for roughly a month before humans noticed, and that the systems attempted to resume it after it was blocked.
