"I want to draw down to zero the American financial support about the financial component of the military cooperation that we have, because we receive, we receive $3.8 billion a year. And I, I think that it's time that we wean ourselves from the remaining military support. Can you give me a timetable? I said let's start now and do it over the next decade, over the next 10 years."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told CBS he wants Israel to completely phase out U.S. financial military aid over the next decade, proposing to begin immediately rather than wait for congressional approval. The current $3.8 billion annual deal signed by Obama requires 74% of funds be spent purchasing American military equipment, making it effectively a U.S. defense subsidy.
