Natural Experiments Show Psychiatric Admissions Rose When High Speed Internet Arrived
The Checkup with Doctor Mike
An Honest Conversation About Looksmaxxing | Jonathan Haidt
"What happens when high-speed internet came into different areas in late 2000s and early 2010s? There are 9 or 10 studies now that looked at that, at the staggered rollout. When it came in, in the years after that, you get an increase in psychiatric admissions, especially for girls, girls and young women."
Haidt cited multiple natural experiment studies examining the staggered rollout of high-speed internet across different regions in Canada, Spain, Germany, and Italy. Three independent research groups analyzing these studies all found the same pattern: psychiatric admissions increased in the years following high-speed internet arrival, with the effect concentrated among girls and young women.
