"About 100 meters above the ship, I could see glowing lights that I had no idea what it was. I couldn't make out the structure. I could just see the glowing lights. But it was blocking the rain from the entire 450-foot-long vessel. Whatever this was was huge. The lights got really bright and boom, straight up because had twirling air going up. You could see the vortices from the air going up and it was gone."
In 2008, while aboard the USS Blue Ridge in the Sea of Japan during a typhoon, McGwier witnessed an unidentified aerial phenomenon larger than the 450-foot flagship hovering 100 meters above. It completely blocked rain from hitting the ship before shooting straight up into the typhoon's eyewall. Radar showed nothing. This was his second UAP experience involving a U.S. naval vessel.
