He had a green contractor badge, intelligence community special badge."
McGwier revealed that when he met Carl Sagan at NSA headquarters in the 1990s during a technology transfer meeting, Sagan wore a green-bordered contractor badge allowing unrestricted access to intelligence facilities. This directly contradicted Sagan's public persona as a critic of the national security establishment and suggests he maintained classified relationships throughout his career.
