"They were testing me for psychic abilities and for IQ tests. I took like 30 IQ tests both in the school and outside of the school. There were these weekly meetings with a counselor. As soon as I close that door, I don't remember anything. The one-on-one session happens. I close the door. Now I remember, oh, here I am. But I remember not remembering what was in the room."
Cognitive neuroscientist Julia recounted being enrolled in a seventh-grade program called SOAR (Students on Active Research) where she underwent memory suppression, psychic testing with Zener cards, and unexplained medical procedures including a chalky pink drink. When she requested her school records decades later for a security clearance, all teacher comments from grades 1-8 were redacted. Her mother confirmed without prompting that intelligence agencies had been studying her.
