The Ultimate Human
269. Mark Manson: On Killing Your Dream, "The Subtle Art," Anxiety & Depression
What was said
"Somebody in the audience asked him, what words of encouragement would you give to struggling entrepreneurs? Elon Musk said, 'None, because if you need words of encouragement, you shouldn't be starting your business.'"
Mark Manson relayed a 15-year-old Elon Musk quote stating that entrepreneurs requiring external motivation lack the necessary conviction for success. Manson used this to argue that true entrepreneurial drive requires belief so deep that public embarrassment and repeated failure feel worthwhile, framing it as essential to achieving ambitious goals.
