Responding to a question about why Himalayan salt is pink, Neil deGrasse Tyson says the colour comes from trace impurities, specifically iron oxide, rather than anything intrinsically different about salt itself. He adds that while it may contain some iron, he believes the nutritional benefit is commonly exaggerated compared with other dietary sources.
