"Even as European governments, the EU imposes sanctions, more and more sanctions on Russian energy and says that it will cease to import Russian energy products of any kind after January 2027, and even as the EU and the Europeans work to help the Ukrainians conduct strikes on Russian energy facilities, Europe continues to fund the Russian energy complex by ramping up purchases of Russian LNG. Apparently last month sales by Russia of LNG to Europe grew by 18%."
Despite EU sanctions and stated plans to cease all Russian energy imports by January 2027, Europe increased purchases of Russian liquefied natural gas by 18% last month as gas reserves remain far below levels needed for winter. The analysis notes the contradiction of Europe funding Russian energy infrastructure while simultaneously helping Ukraine attack Russian refineries and energy facilities. European gas storage remains critically low with major price hikes expected in autumn.
