The Universe is Stranger Than We Could’ve Imagined, with Mordecai-Mark Mac Low
"There is actually evidence that quite recently, like just 5 million years ago, there was a much brighter outburst from our own galactic black hole. And there's now a shock wave like running out of the galaxy."
Mordecai-Mark Mac Low reveals that the Milky Way's supermassive black hole experienced a significant outburst approximately 5 million years ago, detected via shock waves spreading through the galaxy. This discovery was made using the Fermi Gamma-ray satellite and suggests our galaxy was much more active in the recent cosmic past than previously understood.
