"He said, uh, I was told I was told that people didn't like Khamenei, that the Iranians were going to rise up and they're crying now for him. Are those fake tears? Trump said he it seemed as if Trump didn't quite understand what uh what was unfolding in Iran or or was was clueless about the actual situation in Iran."
In an Axios interview, President Trump revealed he was surprised by the massive funeral turnout for assassinated Iranian leader Khamenei, stating he had been told Iranians disliked him and would rise up after his death. The funeral drew 20-30 million attendees, contradicting intelligence briefings Trump apparently received. Trump's public admission suggests a major intelligence failure or deliberate misinformation that shaped U.S. strategy on the assassination.
