"On June 16th, the news here is that Helion cleared the required Washington state regulatory approvals for its Orion fusion power plant, which is intended to supply Microsoft with 50 megawatts of power starting in 2028. It looks like fusion is finally here."
Sam Altman-backed Helion became the first fusion company to clear state regulatory approvals for a commercial power plant. The 50-megawatt facility in Washington will supply Microsoft and represents the first fusion plant potentially coming online by 2028. Helion has raised $1 billion at a $5.4 billion valuation and uses a unique direct energy recovery design that skips traditional turbine-based power generation.
