"We launched our first spacecraft, Star Cloud 1, in November last year. Had actually 5 GPUs, 2 from Marm and 3 from NVIDIA. But the most important one was the NVIDIA H100. And so with that, we were the first to train a model in space."
Seattle-based StarCloud became the first company to train an AI model in orbit using an NVIDIA H100 GPU launched on Falcon 9. The $1 billion-valued startup has three launches booked for 2026 including StarCloud 2 with 100x the power generation. CEO Philip Johnson projects that within 10 years most new compute capacity will be deployed in space rather than terrestrially.
