What was said
"Bernie was a mentor to all of us that were coming up. We knew Bernie from the neighborhood. He was called Blue. He was Blue, 'cause he was so black, he was blue. That's what we would call him. Hey, what's up, Blue? Bernie was telling us, dress up, come on time. He was a mentor to us."
Underwood reveals personal history with Bernie Mac, who mentored her in Chicago's comedy clubs including the Cotton Club and Roberts. She says Mac, nicknamed Blue for his dark complexion, taught young comics professionalism and stage presence before his national fame.
