What was said
"You know what I'm really impressed by is, like, I always think about Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig. And how, as does the rest of the world, but I love that Jordan came from sketch comedy. And with Greta, like, coming from being an actress and, like, the muse of Noah Baumbach, and then being like, 'Well, I want to direct.' And then taking something like Barbie and making it, like, this great movie about feminism. And so, and now doing the Narnia stuff. Like, so I'm always really inspired by them. I think that that's the thing is I'd love to be able to write and direct movies."
When asked about future creative goals, Kaling named Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig as her primary inspirations for wanting to transition into film directing. She praised Peele's evolution from sketch comedy and Gerwig's journey from actress to feminist filmmaker with Barbie. Kaling expressed desire to follow their paths in writing and directing feature films.
