Mindy Kaling Reveals She Wrote More Office Episodes Than Any Other Writer

What was said

"I could talk about this with you forever, and maybe it's too kind of inside baseball, but the way you enter the business, you entered the business as a writer. A writer, and then, like, in that same time became a performer, and you're also a producer. And all those things have, like, different pros and cons. You really did do it for Mindy. You created— you were like, 'I'm gonna write, create, and star in this show.' And there's nothing harder. There's nothing harder. And there's nothing more gratifying. Like, I was so obsessed with it. I mean, and then coming from The Office, where I had been there for 8 years, had, like, a line every episode."

During Amy Poehler's podcast, Mindy Kaling confirmed she wrote more episodes of The Office than any other writer despite being character number 11 on the call sheet for 8 years. Poehler emphasized this achievement, noting how Kaling's prolific writing output is often overlooked in favor of her acting work. Kaling described the frustration of having minimal lines for nearly a decade before creating The Mindy Project to become the comedy engine of her own show.
