A Rare Republican Break With Trump Raises New Questions
What was said
"It is. There's no power on this island. You're building, you're building everything from scratch. Correct. Well, it's an unbelievable, beautiful 1,400-hectare private island in the middle of the Mediterranean. We were on a friend's boat and we stopped for a swim. Effectively, that's how we found it."
Ivanka Trump revealed in an interview that she and Jared Kushner discovered the Albanian island they plan to develop into a $1.4 billion luxury resort while swimming from a friend's yacht. The tone-deaf comments, made while her father serves as president and Americans struggle with gas prices, sparked immediate mockery. The project faces growing scrutiny from Albanian prosecutors and protesters, raising emoluments concerns as the Kushners pursue foreign business deals during the Trump presidency.
