#868: Tim’s Founder Kitchen — From Brainstorm to The President’s Office in Two Months (Featuring Jake Becraft, Strand Therapeutics)
"Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, the president put out his policy objectives, his legislative objectives. And in those legislative objectives, in fact, you know, sort of the president recommends what he thinks the budget should look like. But in the president's recommendations, there is this exact idea of removing barriers to getting early-stage experimental medicines to American patients in America through FDA reform. That's an incredibly quick turnaround for Washington, DC."
Becraft described an unusually rapid policy trajectory where his Washington Post op-ed on FDA reform led to congressional testimony within days, then appeared in the president's legislative priorities to Congress just two months later. The speed of movement from op-ed to Oval Office represents what Becraft called an exceptionally fast turnaround for policy change in biomedicine, suggesting high-level concern about US competitiveness in drug development.
