"We run our physics and we say, if you have this much volume and this much mass, what should that interior be like? None of our current models of how matter works gives us the right observations, gives us the right size."
Dr. Michelle Thaller, former NASA communications director, disclosed that despite measuring neutron stars with teaspoon-sized samples containing the mass of Mount Everest, current physics models cannot describe their interior state. NASA's NICER mission observes these objects but the density at their core defeats all existing equations, indicating a new state of matter we cannot yet characterize.
