"A couple board meetings in a row, I was like, hey, you know what, if that's what you want this to be, then you need to change a mission statement because I'm going to execute this mission statement. And about the third board meeting, they were like, hey, we see what you're doing. It's good, it's not what we had in mind, so we all quit."
Jimmy May disclosed that Beyond the Brotherhood's original board of directors resigned collectively after disagreeing with his execution of the nonprofit's mission. May held firm on screening and selecting high-character Navy SEALs rather than broadening intake criteria. Following the mass resignation, May rebuilt the board with Jocko Willink and others, leading to exponential growth and zero suicides among participants.
