Ben Macintyre says a senior KGB officer in revolutionary Iran passed MI6 intelligence alleging the USSR was preparing a coup in the early 1980s. He says the plan involved Iran’s communist party and Soviet forces moving from Afghanistan towards oilfields and the Strait of Hormuz.
