"So that data can be subpoenaed by a district attorney and could be used to build a case against someone if they live in a place where abortion is illegal and where people are prosecuted for having abortions or even prosecuted for the belief that they might have had an abortion."
Dr Jen Gunter says menstrual tracking app data could be subpoenaed by prosecutors and used in investigations where abortion is illegal. She advises people in those jurisdictions to be careful about what cycle data their phones and apps collect and store.
