Joby Warrick says French authorities allowed him to meet Carlos the Jackal only under restrictive conditions, including no recording equipment or camera and taking notes with only a pencil and notebook. He adds that he had to agree the meeting would not be published as a verbatim Q&A and that he could not quote Carlos extensively.
