How Big Food Tricks Moms: Former General Mills Insider Speaks Out | Lovebird Cereal's Parker Brook
"There's an actual strategy by Big Food to drive what is called Kid Ask or Mom Nag. And so they will advertise on channels that are viewed by kids to make sure that when they go down the aisle, they're going to see the Blues Clues Fruit Snacks and nag their mom about it because they saw it on TV or they saw it on YouTube, whatever kids are watching these days."
Parker Brooke alleges packaged-food companies deliberately advertise to children to prompt them to pester mothers in supermarkets. He says marketers treat mothers as household “gatekeepers” and use kids’ media to influence purchasing decisions.
