"And I was like, "Dad, I'm sorry." Like I remember just rushing it, right? I'm sorry. You know, I'm sorry that I was a bad son. I'm sorry that I joined a gang and I ruined your American dream."
Chang describes meeting his father after years of estrangement and apologising for his own actions, following a conversation with a pastor that urged reconciliation. He says his father cried, apologised in return, and told him he avoided prison visits because he felt responsible for the path his son took.
