Comedian Max Amini tells Bill Maher he believes Iran’s 1979 revolution was engineered with Western backing, alleging US president Jimmy Carter, alongside European allies, helped remove the Shah and bring Ayatollah Khomeini to power. Maher challenges the premise, noting the Shah was viewed as aligned with the West, but Amini repeats the claim and argues the Shah had become ‘too threatening’ on oil pricing and independence.
