CIA SURVEILLANCE TRAINING: How Spies Know They’re Being Followed
"I left a large digital footprint saying hey I'm changing my flight sent multiple emails made multiple phone calls cuz I assume if they're watching me they're watching my cell phone. Let like the whole world I let them all know I'm leaving early on this flight."
Bustamante says that after deciding to depart early, he deliberately created a visible communications trail — emails, calls and sharing an updated ticket — on the assumption hostile surveillance might be monitoring his phone. He says he was pulled into secondary screening at the airport immediately after presenting his passport, and alleges the questioning suggested the local service was less coordinated than he had feared.
