""So they fired me. Well, I found that to be unconstitutional. I didn't think it was just. I explained to them, like I would explain to anyone, that my history in the club and my background is what I thought would make me a good therapist for kids. And so I filed a lawsuit against the state of Oregon for— against Youth Authority for wrongful discrimination, and I won. But when I won, again, it's all— I won $1,001. You know, that $1 is something everyone always remembers.""
Justin DeLoretto says Oregon Youth Authority pulled him from class, accused him of “infiltrating”, and then fired him from an unpaid internship. He says he viewed the decision as unconstitutional discrimination, sued the agency and won $1,001 plus attorney fees.
