"China has passed laws sort of banning a lot of kinds of companion chat bots because they're worried about relationships. They're worried about fertility rates. um they're worried about addiction. Uh China has passed uh made court rulings that say that AI replaced this worker's job. AI can do this worker's job is not a good enough reason to lay off a worker."
Jasmine Sun says China has moved to bar or limit some companion chatbots and that court rulings have made AI replacement an insufficient reason for redundancies. She contrasts this with what she describes as a more laissez-faire US national approach to AI’s social and labour impacts.
