Ice Cube said Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray initially resisted the idea of Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., portraying him in the biopic, telling him he thought they were “making a real movie”. Cube said Gray only warmed to the casting after auditions and a screen test, when Jackson competed against other actors and, Cube claims, “was the best one”.
