Margaret Cho says TV show staff pressured her to lose weight

Comedian Margaret Cho meets the person she used to be
"People on the show were making it clear that if I didn't lose weight, we couldn't continue. The perception of Asian women in general, like if you were an Asian woman, you were supposed to be petite, you were supposed to be quiet, you were supposed to be like this exotic flower."
Cho says people involved with her sitcom "All American Girl" conveyed that the production could not continue unless she lost weight. She links the pressure to stereotypes she says were applied to Asian women on television, describing expectations to appear petite and quiet.
