Milligan recounts attempting to interview Vietnam-era SEAL Bob Gallagher during research for his book, saying Gallagher initially refused to speak with him. He says a friend later dropped off a galley copy at Gallagher’s home, and that after Gallagher’s death a copy was found with a handwritten note directing it to another SEAL and urging him to read it.
