Voting-rights lawyer Mark Elias says a panel of the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit has stayed a lower-court order that had enforced a 2020 NAACP settlement with the US Postal Service aimed at protecting mail service for voting by post. Elias argues the stay weakens one of several legal backstops against what he describes as a Trump executive order linking delivery of mail-in ballots to states providing voter data, though he notes a separate injunction remains in place in a lawsuit brought by 23 state attorneys general in Massachusetts.
