Johnny Carson's the most famous I started as a magician guy. He just said, for this show, we don't want to go to commercial with a dead guy. So we said, we don't."
Penn Jillette refused to appear on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson because Carson insisted they change their water tank escape trick to show Teller alive before the commercial break. Despite Carson being a magician himself and understanding it was an illusion, he wouldn't compromise on the format. The duo instead performed a different trick on Jay Leno's guest-hosted episode, maintaining their creative integrity while respecting Carson's show boundaries.
