A 1948 Air Force report documents National Guard pilot Thomas Mantell's final transmission before his death while pursuing an unknown object. Mantell climbed above 30,000 feet without oxygen equipment, suffered anoxia, lost consciousness, and crashed. His description of a metallic object of tremendous size remains unexplained and was significant enough to be included in classified Air Force intelligence assessments of the UFO phenomenon.
