5 Years. 800 Conversations. The 10 Lessons I Learned Too Late
"Do you guys hang out on set? And like, Do you guys hang out? And like, Are you all friends? And everyone sort of like nods enthusiastically. But the truth is, no one has seen each other outside of work. Like, very, very, very rarely. And you have to pretend. I think that's the part that starts to feel icky after a while is like you you have to pretend that you're all best friends. And what's so sad is I think people wish they were. I think we wish we did have those real connections and we did have that real support."
Emma Watson exposes the reality that Hollywood co-stars rarely form genuine friendships despite public perception and press tour narratives. She explains that grueling schedules make real connection impossible, yet actors must pretend to be close friends for publicity. Watson describes the emotional toll of having to act out relationships she actually wishes were real but aren't, calling certain moments of this pretense dark.
