"He said, 'Would you like to be a 60 Minutes correspondent?' I said, 'Well, sure. But can I still do movies?' He said, 'No.' So I said, 'Well, no.' I said, 'I I want a a little more latitude.' He said, 'Well, you can't have it.' So I didn't do it."
After Murphy Brown, CBS's 60 Minutes approached Candice Bergen to become a correspondent. She did a test interview with an Oakland official, which she described as a disaster, but was still offered the position. Bergen declined because the head of 60 Minutes refused to allow her to continue making movies alongside the journalism work.
