"Shortly after she died, I got a message on Facebook from somebody saying, 'Hi, this is your sister. I have been in touch with mom for a few years.' She started sending me like screenshots of their text messages. She's reading it and it says like, mother also gave birth to a boy in 1964 and also given up for adoption under Catholic Social Services. Oh my God, mom did that twice. Twice. Yes."
Jessica from South Carolina learned immediately after her mother's 2021 death that she has two half-siblings born in 1964 and 1966 who were given up for adoption. Her mother, forced by her Detroit police officer father to give up the babies as an unwed Catholic, maintained a secret three-year relationship with one sibling before her death. Remarkably, both the adoptive parents and Jessica's mother independently gave the 1966 daughter the exact same first and middle name as Jessica's known sister.
