What was said
"If you look at their appointments to PCAST, the Presidential Council of Advisors in Science and Technology, there were 13, 12 of which were like billionaires and technologists, and one guy was a scientist. The US is basically committing harakiri. And it is consigning itself to lose its status as the world's superpower."
Mathematician and economist Eric Weinstein issued a stark warning that the Trump administration has effectively sidelined actual scientists from crucial technology policy roles, appointing primarily billionaires and technologists to the Presidential Council of Advisors in Science and Technology. Weinstein argued this represents an existential threat to American scientific dominance, particularly as AI threatens to fundamentally restructure the labor market in ways neither capitalism nor communism can address.
