Trussell recounted the harrowing 1943 self-experiment by chemist Albert Hofmann, who accidentally discovered LSD's psychedelic properties by ingesting roughly 800 micrograms without knowing the duration or effects. The experience, now commemorated as Bicycle Day on April 19th, was so traumatic that Hofmann later questioned why anyone would use LSD recreationally.
