"A 6-week training program using very low-intensity stretching had a greater positive effect on lower limb range of motion than did moderate-intensity static stretching. The most interesting aspect of the study was the greater increase in active range of motion compared to passive range of motion by the microstretching group."
Huberman cited research on recreational dancers showing that low-intensity stretching at 30-40% of pain threshold produces greater range of motion gains than moderate-intensity stretching at 80% of pain threshold. This finding contradicts the common belief that stretching requires pushing into painful ranges to be effective.
