Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a blog post calling for creation of a new government regulatory agency similar to the FAA or FDA to approve all AI models, moving beyond transparency requirements. The timing coincides with Anthropic implementing mandatory 30-day data retention, user surveillance, and model downgrading. Critics argue this represents regulatory capture designed to eliminate open-source competitors and create an AI monopoly or duopoly controlled by a few companies.
