Weinstein Accuses Physics Community of 42-Year Intellectual Implosion Caused by String Theory Gatekeeping
Joe Rogan Experience
#2503 - Eric Weinstein
"From 1984 to the present, those 42 years have been the greatest intellectual implosion I think that I know of, where people just got dumber. Quantum gravity did it. I'm probably the most blue-chip defector from the institutions, mutineer. I have essentially perfect credentials, and that's the problem."
Weinstein attributes a four-decade collapse in American theoretical physics to the dominance of string theory gatekeeping since 1984, initiated by Edward Witten's influence following the Greenshaw anomaly cancellation. He claims this exclusionary approach, termed TOGIT (The Only Game In Town), has suppressed alternative research and made the U.S. less competitive. Weinstein describes himself as the greatest credentialed threat to this narrative, facing systematic institutional resistance despite Harvard PhD and top-tier credentials.
