What was said
"We thought it was eradicated because of the illicit movement of people and cattle during 2021 to 2025. You know, millions of people moved up through South America, Central America, Mexico. The screwum actually made its way back."
US Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins alleges New World screwworm returned after what she calls illicit movement of people and cattle through South and Central America and Mexico during 2021–2025. She says the US closed cattle ports about 14 months earlier, and that the parasite reached the US around four months before the recording, with three active cases then.
