Air Force JTAC Reveals How a Secret Mission in Afghanistan Turned Out to Be a Diversion
""That's when I realized that we're the diversion. So whatever the real thing was, uh it was happening somewhere else.""
An unnamed US Air Force JTAC (the guest) recalls responding to reports of a Pave Low helicopter forced to land on an island in Afghanistan’s Kunar River while personnel on the island took fire. He says he was surprised when A-10s told him to hold “high and dry” for an incoming medevac he had not requested, and that he then saw two medevac helicopters escorted by two Apaches flying north away from his position. The guest says that was when he realised his team’s fight and recovery effort was “the diversion” and that “the real thing” was happening elsewhere.
