"The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI's own internal safety assessment rated Astra as a quote cyber security risk, a critical cyber security risk, the highest threat level on its preparedness framework scale. This is the first model OpenAI has ever classified as being a critical tier cyber security risk. They notified the White House about the delay before making it public."
Peter Diamandis, introducing a segment on AI safety, quotes Sam Altman warning OpenAI may need to “slow things as needed”, and then cites a Wall Street Journal report that OpenAI’s internal safety assessment rated “Astra” a “critical” cyber security risk under its preparedness framework. Diamandis also says Reuters reported that OpenAI told Congress it is building an automated shutdown capability (“kill switch”).
